What to buy…

I’m sure all of you techies know all about these new netbooks, but probably not all of you. I just saw this Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Netbook, and it’s pretty enticing. Personally, I think these netbooks are in genius. They should have invented these when I was a kid. They’re perfect for college students. Small, light, and CHEAP (anywhere from $300-500 which is pretty good for a laptop) laptops that do everything that most people do on their computers. And they’re the perfect size to carry in your backpack. I’d probably go for either the Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Netbook or the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-1208U Netbook. They feel like they’re more solid and durably built than the others. Although you could probably get the best bang for your buck going with some of the cheaper models like the Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook or the ASUS Eee PC 900HA 8.9-Inch Netbook.

I have seen one of them. One of my many bro upgraded his netbook before his senior year at holy cross. cause he decided to be a lawyer a couple more years of school. He said he needed a new one. When he was at home on break, I was looking at it and playing with it and did some changes to it. But over all I like it. I have one of the newest desk top but my netnoke is so old it has to be one of the frist ones they made on how old it is.

I was not familiar. I have a daughter going off to college this Fall so I will definitely be looking into these.
Thanks,

Was lucky enough to be able to try both out. Love them, specially the price *grin*. Were I looking for a laptop, I’d definitely think about either.

(And yes, why weren’t they around when I was in college? Might’ve kept me more interested!)

The EeePC is kind of slow. It takes a bit for applications to open. I’d say the best one I’ve tested out was the new hp netbook - it’s not only pretty but works faster in comparison to the EeePC.

Sounds like a good beginer laptop for students and for people who just need the bare minimum.

As a graphic designer I need the screen space, so my 17″ Mac is the love of my life. Were I still in school and looking for something economical I would probably go with it, but I think it’d kill the rendering time on my projects.

ACtually, as a programmer I can assure u that these mini laptops are very handy as u said seen it from a point of u, for a home user it’s all they need, the bad thing is that most of them are slower than the regular laptops.

U should actually see what u need to do on a computer, and then decide what you need. (in my case I need a laptop that brings an Nvidia card xD)

I’ve read the HP mini notebooks have the best keyboards. Important for the fast touch typers.

Duuude - I was JUST looking into these, because our two IT dept guys bought them and they were urging me [the aspiring graphic design girl] to run out and get one… Maybe Ill take your suggestion and get a good sturdy one… being as clumsy as I am. :)

The MSI Wind is a great alternative as well. It ranked number one compared to all the other net books out there on computer shopper magazine. Check out www.frostycomputers.com, they have great deals.

They are a great idea. I have a AOA150-1786 and love the thing. When I first got it I thought it would not suit my needs, but I was wrong. I use it for my business and for MMORPG gaming.
