What are they gonna come up with next? It seems like Dubai just has so much money, they can’t stop coming up with crazy things to build. They’ve already built their palm tree islands, and the world map islands seem like they’re just about done.
Now they’ve announced a skyscraper that will consist of 80 rotating floors. The wind will cause the skyscraper to dynamically change its shape. On another good note, it will also be self sufficient for energy by using wind turbines on every floor to generate power.

Boredom. It gets you every time.
I’ve created my own rotating tornado in a bottle. Yay, me!
Too bad I’m poor, are else I would’ve created two.
Two. Two tornadoes in a bottle. ah ah ah…. (What? Oh, like you don’t like Sesame Street)
People with lot of money don’t share, but show off. I don’t mind creativity, but Dubai is not going to be my dream destination. I do have some friends there and would like to visit someday, though…
I meant that boredom gets “them” every time. Because you seriously have to be bored in order to come up with some crazy stuff like that….
that will be something to see an skyscraper with 80 rotating floors, talk about creativity, i know construction is being done by nakheel develpers on some of there islands, a.k. i dont agree with you i have money and i give all the time, i do like to show off my toys .
I think I must have read something wrong… a moving room several floors above the ground ranks really near the top of the list of things I don’t want…. so… when (IF - big if) I check in and they ask for my room preference… “um… the one that DOESN’T move. Thank you.” hmmm…. =)
I’m surprised they didn’t build something like this sooner. I don’t believe that creativity comes mainly from boredom. It usually comes from inspiration from the beauty and wonder of nature around us, as well as our passions, our core values and personal motivations. My only concern would be if the building is in constant motion, It would make me ill.
I dont think i like the idea of living in a skyscraper where the floors rotate, i just dont feel safe. why cant they make good use of their wealth? Like really good use of it! I’ve never been to Dubai, people i know love going there BUT after watching the travel news about Dubai’s strict regulations i doubt i will ever go there let alone make it as one of THE places i’d like to go to before i die ..nope no uh uh
I think it’s a bloody brilliant idea. The rotations will probably be slow enough for people to bear with. My only concern is that assuming the core of the building is stationary, people will have to look for their houses every day after a hard day’s work (work? in Dubai?). However, people who came up with this building will be able to find a solution.
This reminds me of a billion-dollar single-family home in this same part of the world. Re the other comments–I love creativity as well, and I don’t begrudge anybody financial success….as long as it’s not begotten on someone else’s back. Many people (present company included) are stuggling with fuel prices. Since I know Dubai’s money comes from obscene oil profits, their use of wealth seems wasteful and over-the-top. Just my two cents’ worth…..
I have pics of what it supposed to look like. Ill send them to you.
that seems cool but wouldn’t people get tired of spinning?
that’s crazy stuff, kinda cool but like Elena says, totally OTT when you know where the $$ comes from.
I received this in my email and I dont know if you have heard or seen or received any email about the diamond covered mercedes. US$4.8 million for a car and $1000 if you just want to touch it. An obscene bling bling beauty. So clicky here:

Want to touch it? ACK. I think I just blew a fuse.
I don’t even understand why Catholics line up for miles to touch a bone of a dead guy… oh excuse me, a relic from a saint… I’m truly not understanding the desire to touch a CAR, let alone the idea of throwing money towards that aim.
At least the Catholic “thing” (don’t kill me) is based in their faith and/or religion… uh… hmmm… I think I just answered my own question.
For some people, cars ARE religion. For me they serve 2 purposes, one is very necessary transportation and the other is, of course, really fun toys.
=)
hi sung how are u? love your blog =)
I think the revolving skyscraper is cool but you wouldnt see me up there.. too high!!
also wanted to say about the Catholic thing, im Catholic but you would never see me lining up for miles to touch the bones of some dead guy that would just freak me out!!
I wouldn’t mind checking out human bone trumpets the tibetan monks have and they also make necklaces out of human bone. I’ve seen an awesome necklace made out of snake vertabre in a beading book.
Hmm, I would live there. Palm tree shaped island… well I don’t like palm trees that much I suppose. Oh well, self sufficient is good. I’m all about the green these days. Might as well buy into a fad that may actually be healthy for you. ^_^
Hi Sung - Sounds pretty brilliant, however, revolving 80 flights up, perhaps it won’t move that fast, un-noticeable inside, well, duh, it would have to be a roller coaster ride if it moved too fast. lol Something about different landmarks/skyscrapers, etc. Face your fears Kelly….. Have a good one.
Good luck getting a flat. Does it come with Dramamine? Not for the motion sickness…..
Awesome idea
Now that’s something you don’t see every day aint it? Sounds good though and gives us a glimpse of the future…although they better come up with a cure for motion sickness if this is the future!
