Since I’m pretty sure all of you will be watching history in the making today, I thought I’d share some pictures of his college years that I got from Time.
And here’s Mr. Obama with Joe the Plumber’s green plunger.
And one last picture of Mr. Obama gettting some shuteye (hopefully he’ll manage to get some of this tonight, before one of the biggest days in America).

ah i assumed that there’d be comment on this topic on the blog at some point! (was going to ask y’all what you thought about this on the previous post, but thought i’d wait!) as an external observer i think this seems like a very exciting and positive time for the US. i hope that obama delivers what he promises - this will not only benefit the US but potentially the world.
so looking forward to some +ves in my morning news! :D)
there’s a lot of hype in oz re this - it’s all over the news and the inauguration will be broadcasted live to us on tv here… can i get up at 2amish to watch it live? hmm… maybe not! though it IS a significant moment, and a positive moment (the last time i saw smth on tv at a ridiculous hour regarding the US was 9/11…
is the general feeling among the US public +ve??? what do you blog posters think? (and sung too of course - this is ur blog! ;))
Hi Sara,
I’m in Sydney (almost choking from the bushfire smoke) and I just want to agree with you on the general buzz here in Australia.
Makes you wonder if we are excited here- can you imagine what the Yanks must be feeling?
Hope you have a WONDERFUL day America!
Most of the country is truly positive and excited about the President-elect.
Personally I hope we don’t expect instant change. Right now the economy is a mess (globally) and there will be no quick solutions regardless of who is in office. I don’t envy him or his first year in office. He has a tough road ahead.
One more thing. I know this is history in the making but to truly show tolerance we should be supporting the man, not the black man. As long as we keep referring to him as a black man I believe it deters from him as a man. I can only imagine the pressure he is under.
Not in the US either, but almost everyone I know is watching the inauguration (me included :oP). It’s an exciting time. Change will not be something quick in the coming, but I am truly optimistic that when it comes, it will be for the better.
I am so glad that Bush is gone. He should of not even did a good bye speak. He should of just gotten lost. Bush left everything in a mess. Bush left a hard job for Obama and it is going to take some time for Obama to clean up. But I think Obama will be able to do it with time on his hands and be a better pres. then Bush ever was. I do agree that people do need to stop focusing on him being black but at the tast at hand and what is going to have to be done to fix the mess. I know every morning he wakes up, he knows he is black. He doesn’t need to be reminded of it everyday. It is putting pressure on him that he does not need right know. Focus should be on what he is going to do to fix what Bush did to the u.s and other coun.
I am not from the US but i’m so happy that Bush is out and Obama is in. Things may be difficult but i believe he can manage to clean up the mess.
I’m not in the US either and don’t usually put the telly on at 6 in the morning but it is exciting watching history being made, he certainly has his work cut out for him. Watching the inauguration (sp) kept bringing tears to my eyes (and my mum’s). Thanks for sharing the photos Sung.
I agree with prev. posters, that we should not expect Obama to change everything all at once. And I do see him as a unique human being, outside of his race. But the very fact of a black man being elected President does show how far our country has come. I can only imagine how an older black American feels!!!!!
I saw the inauguration while working at a junior high school in the U.S. I wonder how the kids see it….
Thanks for sharing the photos of a young Obama, Sung. We love these slice-of-life, intimate shots. I would not mind seeing days-gone-by pics of a certain talented actor… :O
I just wanted to say that people in Canada really love Obama. I work at Sheridan College and even the president of the College decided to post up the inauguration on all the TV monitors around the school. Students started cheering during the broadcast! ^___^ Anyone with a computer even logged on to CNN to watch it live.
I don’t think people expect a miracle to happen. I feel like there’s alot of pressure on him to change everything at once, but it takes time and people should understand. I mean, after what Bush has done, and all the negative spirit in the air… I think people all around the world are just happy with the enthuasiam he exudes and his longing for change and hope for all people.
I don’t know how Americans think, cause I’m Canadian, but it doesn’t take a dummy to know that Bush is an idiot! he makes up his own words! EEKS!! >__<
Anyways Obama stands for change, it doesn’t matter how long it takes or how…it looks to me that he’s the type of guy who’s not looking to make enemies, but friendship with other countries. I also like the fact that you get a sense that he’s not someone you can mess with either and that he can be serious and that he’s smart. That’s the type of president the United States needs!!! Canada is watching~
2 thumbs up for Obama!
I hope, with arrival of Obama, the relation between Russia and America will be good!!!
Let’s look that will be!!
I live in Germany. And there was a lot of media coverage over the elections. I followed it with great interest. The change was long over due!!!! A lot of people are happy that Bush’s time is up. Obama now has the task of cleaning up Bush’s shit. Hopefully he’ll manage it with time, and a lot of hard work, and the support of the American people. I wish Obama all the luck in the world and success in reaching his goals.
