Thanks to Elena, I found this article about Los Angeles hiring a 100 goats to clear out some brush right here in downtown Los Angeles. From what it sounds like, they should do this more often, and maybe prevent a few more fires down here. They’re going to be there for 10 days straight, clearing out all the brush. This seems like its much more eco-friendly method, versus having gardeners with their weed-wackers and lawnmowers. And I bet its much more pleasant for downtown workers to see a field of goats with a little bit of crunching noises. Apparently, its less than half the cost to hire the goats versus people as well. Too bad I won’t get a chance to head downtown and see this spectacle.

Thanks, Sung! Big smiles on my end today. So sorry you can’t see it for yourself…being from Georgia and all, I thought farm animals grazing might bring back memories of a childhood farm visit. My folks used to have goats, down in Kentucky….I remember feeding them with a baby bottle.
cool! I agree with the carzy gas prices now a days hiring goats is cheap yet eco-friendly.
That is great, totally environmentally friendly and practical, you know people used to use animals things of this kind. It’s interesting how it’s become some sort of novelty. I don’t know. Anyways, thanks to Elena as well that I found your official site
You’ve been MIA on AnD so it’s great to see you blogging here! *hugs* Take care gorgeous!
Sometimes I see goats along the sides of freeways. Tons of them released to chow down on the brush. Much more eco-friendly. And goats are cute…if they’re not in butting range.
yeah it is eco friendy but who is going to clean up after the goats.
Don’t worry Tiffany…the poop will biodegrade. It’s a hillside without buildings anyway. I’m off to work on my own blog…
Elena, yeah it will biodegrade, but that takes alot of time for that to happen. Like months.
I forgot maybe I will see the goats if they are there. I leave for Los Angeles monday for 2 weeks. Wedding.
Hopefully this will start a trend in other areas/states. Going green is a very important issue and I’m glad that people are starting to care.
Hey! I am in NC and we have a program here similar to this. Except our goats eat the kudzoo vine from the side of the road. And as an added bonus the goats are friendly and if you happen to walk by, you can stop and pet them.
Hmm good idea just what do you do with the goats afterwards… and they are notorious for eating anything and everything including some of the most spiky plants on earth that will keep lions at bay so hope none of them escape.
Hmmm
good xD
yum goat
my dad used to keep goats on his goat farm.
this is very cool way of clearing the scrub
that’s a cool idea for clearing brush, shame nobodys thought of doing that in Australia ( well not that I know of ) as we seem to be extremely prone to bushfires here during summer
Hi Cathy the problem with letting them go loose in the bush to deal with grasslands/fire prone areas is the environmental damage they can do to endangered flora and fauna. They will literally eat an area out until there is nothing left they need to be monitored and Australia is a pretty hard place to do that in. My other concern is with the goats eating weed/plants that have seed that can survive the digestion tract whilst the goats may help over the short term it may cause other long term effects.
