Rob Spence, a Canadian filmmaker is planning on installing a wireless camera inside his eye. I don’t know about you guys, but that just seems a little too weird for me. Honestly, I don’t really see what all the hype is with these web camera shows that follow people around 24/7 (justin.tv, etc.). Is it really that entertaining to follow people around 24/7? I guess it’s sort of like a second life for some people. Regardless, Rob seems to be taking it to a whole other level. Given he already lost his vision in one eye, but it seems like it would have a weird effect on everyone around him as well. Now they’ll all know that they’re being recorded whenever they’re in the presence of Rob.
On another positive note, I just wanted to remind everyone that I’ll be at Bloomingdales at the Beverly Center tomorrow (Saturday) from 2-4 pm. So come stop by if you’re in the area.

That’s too extreme if you ask me. But I suppose there is a project in there for him.
This reminds me of the Van Damme movie Cyborg that made absolutely no sense what-so ever. Maybe Rob can give us more insight in the future. But that just creeps me out…. A lot!
a bit “big brother” - that tv show also annoys me as i can’t understand why people need to literally watch someone 24/7… people say if you don’t like the show, just turn the tv off (which i do), but the concept that it’s normal to want to watch someone/have cameras everywhere 24/7 is plain weird to me.
as this rob guy has lost vision in one eye, will it allow him to regain any vision in that eye? haha perhaps it depends how one defines “vision”?
Thats creepy and i dont think i’d like to do that to myself let alone to anyone else! I agree with the above comment, a bit ‘big brother’
Yes, it would affect the behavior of people around him. Just too weird.
Have fun meetin’ and greetin’ tomorrow. Go get you some good Southern food afterwards (or Chinese with bad service, or crab in a plastic bag, or whatever….)
Orwellian tendencies galore?
Yikes. Diff’rent strokes I guess but… nah. It’s way too creepy for me. I don’t think I’d want to be around someone like that. Privacy issues I guess.
(Told my mom to go to the Beverly Center lol hope you have a great time!)
I would not do something like that. But can see some kind of way they can use that. Just don’t do anything around him.
and there are people that will find that fun to watch people 24/7. I don’t. can care less what people do. Look at big brother people still watch that and it has been on for years or even the real world. which has been on for longer then big brother and still is playing. people do watch that stuff. They even have big brother after dark. and they keep making more shows like that
Yeah exactly, Tiffany. I think that some level of you would always be aware of how you are around someone like that. I don’t imagine it’d ever go away.
Sorta like you’re so comfortable with someone, but then knowing that he or she’d know every single detail going on around when you’re together? *goosebumps*
Personally, I don’t like watching those shows as I feel like I’m being intrusive, but yeah… takes all sorts of people and all sorts of enjoyment. It’ll always have a niche.
*EWEY!* and *yuck* >__<
Wow…I guess robocop will exist one day!
I was a bit grossed out reading the first couple of lines of this paragraph… I’m extremely sensitive and protective about my eyes anyway… so much that I have problems putting in my contacts. I could understand a bit better reading that he had already lost the vision of one eye but that was farther down in the writing… I was like “Why would anyone… OH!” LOL… still gross, but more understandable.
There are some people that just want to be seen, I suppose. Hopefully those people are interesting or funny people and there IS actually something to watch.
Or maybe it is a situation like I have sometimes when I see all of these things I would like to capture and never have a camera close to hand. Maybe he is just trying to eliminate those moments.
Regarding reality shows: Let’s face it… as long as there is an audience, those shows will continue to be made. I don’t usually watch them… but when I do, it is usually Big Brother. Although the commercials like when a woman on a reality show about “nabbing” a farmer says “I didn’t think roosters were real” or watching one trying to walk around a cow field wearing stilletos are amusing. I fear, though, that the best lines and outtakes are probably in those commercials.
Sung, hope your appearance went well and that you had fun. =)
hope the appearance went well =)
re the story *shudders* that’s just creepy
That is just wrong. I mean, if it improved his vision, gave him sight, or something akin to that, maybe. But what is the point of recording everything? as you said no one ( well almost no one) is that interesting 24/7. where is the mystery? where is the intrigue?
how crazy is that to put anything in ones eye and what does this guy thank the out come of it will be, i dont know about this cat seem crazy as hell to me
