What an idea! These houses got to be as strong, if not stronger than my house. And you’re doing something great for the environment. I like the concept-and they’re cheap! 1500-2000$ a used container! You put 4 of those together and you got a house-thats cheaper than a hyundai. In this day in age with the green movement, you’d be recycling too!
Heres a short little video about them:

Seems like a good idea. On a recent trip to San Francisco I caught a clip on TV of a couple up there building their home out of recycled containers. I didn’t catch a price but they sure as heck didn’t make it seem as cheap as the price given above. Their home didn’t even look like it had been made from containers.
Good solution. Fulfills several needs at once. All hail efficiency.
Good idea! This is what I call imagination!!
It is a wonderful concept and could bring a new turn in certain disaster areas like the example they gave (Katrina).
I don’t know though, maybe if I see one up close and see its sturdiness and what it can withstand maybe my idea of it will change. However, I don’t underestimate nature so right now they look creatively dangerous.
interesting idea. it looks comfortable enough inside, too. with this, i may be able to afford a house… :p
Are they only available in California?
first you have to educate people and make them understand that living in a container isn’t bad. that it is great. I would love to have an apartment like that. Small, cheap and i will be recycling too. That would totally solve many housing problem in a lot of countries and it would be affordable to many that can’t afford a house now days.
I love history channel and the modern marvels.
My husband and i have been living in containers for years we have three together and they are all decked out just like a normal everyday house and it cost next to nothing to do, We are in Australia and our living conditions suit the Australian climate to a T… The containers cost us 2,500.00 AUD each delivered and the rest was easy… I do believe it to be a great recycling and economical project and would encourage people to think inside the BOX…
I don’t know how well this would work in Tornado Alley (which I inhabit at the moment), but I want one. It’s a shame the acoustics are probably less-than-ideal or I’d turn one into a studio.
Thanks bro! Keep this stuff coming!
I’ve always thought of digging a huge hole in the ground and dumping in a container for a shelter for tornado alley where I live. A bit of modification would be needed, but could be done.
