“Concern should drive us into action and not into a depression. No man is free who cannot control himself.” - Pythagoras

Here’s a link to an article listing several different sites to help people with their finances amidst this chaotic economy. I know none of them are going to make any of us rich or anything, but they can aid you when making some financial decisions. I’ve haven’t tried all of them, actually, I’ve only tried one of them; mint.com. I can say that it does help in organizing all your bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts all in one place.
If any of you are too lazy to click the link, here’s a the list:

P.S. For all of you that think I know everything, I’m just going to urge you to do your own research as I am just being the messenger.

Credit Karma?

Is that where you rack up bad credit in your previous 3 lives and spend this one paying for them?… pun intended

That is the site for me….

Thanks for posting those sites but, I don’t know but managing your money and that is something you learn in grade school. You start learning about money in 1st grade. Everyone should know how to handle their money and that. That is some what why people are having promblems. They don’t know how to spend their money or handle their anything. Part of the reason why things are falling a part now. Money is not everything but, it is a big part of things and people should learn to take care of their own. Thats before it gets bad. Everyone should be able to handle their money. See I handle my money and I’m never broke and have kids on top of that. Single parent and never go without anything. I don’t understand how anyone can’t handle their money. You have these so called collage boys in the white house and in congress that can’t handle money. They make it worse. Makes you wonder who was sleeping in school. I think it is sad people can’t handle their money on their own.

Our interview was fun : ) You don’t have to worry about me thinking you know everything. Anyone’s blog is just a way of sharing info…we are all responsible fo doing our own research and making the decisions that are right for us.

I LOVE the quote from Pythagoras. Concern driving us to action…that’s what I strive for every day.

Hi Sung, thanks for posting a link to our site. We built it to help our friends and family better manage their money (or lack of it). Hope you’ll give it a try sometime and let us know what you think!

I think CONTROL is the critical word in Pythagoras’ quote. Many of us haven’t had parents who have been smart enough with discussing and role playing financial practicality with their children from an early age and now we are suffering the consequences and/or having to teach ourselves new behaviours and attitudes towards money. Thanks otherwise Sung, hope your restaurant is too threatened by the current economic situation.

Oops sorry. To restate myself. I hope your restaurant ISN”T threatened ……

As a behavioral psychologist, I agree with Catherine: it is control that is the truly difficult and important part. We live an environment in which highly skilled people (marketers and advertisers) have spent literally billions of dollars figuring out the best way to influence us. It is still our “choice”, but it is not a choice completely free from outside interference.

One of the things I’ve been working on in my research over the last few years has really been trying to find a way to deal with this environmental influence. At Thrive, we even sometimes talk about ourselves as the anti-marketers. If it is a company’s job to get you to buy their product, to create a desire for it, then part of our job has to be helping you get to the products that will make you happy and improve your life and not the ones that won’t.

But that’s control as well. So perhaps the issue isn’t whether you are controlled or not, but the point at which you exercise your control in the process: are you going to try to control your individual decisions or the environment that produces them? I advocate for the environment - I’ll try to blog about why soon.

I am a really great fan of quotes from wise people. Very good one up there… sounds like the man was talking about moderation… and how useful it is to a person’s health…

=) Funny how that all ties in.
