Chewin on pencils…

Wow…this just a weird product. A British company has decided to launch a some pre-chewed pencils. Their reasoning behind the product is that children are getting distracted in school by chewing their own pencils. Thus, children will be less likely to chew these pre-chewed pencils, and concentrate more on school. I don’t know if this actually makes sense to me. I almost think it may encourage children to chew their pencils more. Sure, it may stop children that find a pre-chewed pencil from chewing on it more. But if they know they bought the pencil new….why not add to its character…and chew it up some more.

ok… that is just disgusting. lol. My OCD is screaming at me to go wash my hands and I haven’t even touched one of those pencils. =)

Where I work now, the manager chews the top of pens… every one he touches. The store’s favorite story is that he was helping a customer and when the customer needed to sign her receipt, the manager gave her his pen. While she’s writing, she exclaims “This pen seems to be leaking.” It was leaking alright… the manager had been chewing that pen just prior and had left behind considerable DNA. LOL. Nasty.

So how much would a person get paid to chomp a few pencils for this company?

And do they sanitize the pencils before packaging or do the pencils come with microscopic surprises?

eew… soz pencil company but i won’t be keen on buying any of those - why bother when you can chew on the pencil yourself?! lol :)

Oh…kay.

I used to have a classmate who’d borrow my pens, and… yep chew on them. Needless to say, I bought and brought a LOT of pens during that period of time.

The things people think of… I wish they’d put their reasoning and brains towards thinking of ways to put the economic crises all over the world to an end instead…

Who do they hire to pre-chew pencils? The company’s dental plan must be REALLY good.

I hope they sterilize these pre-chewed pencils.
The thought of having a pencil that someone else had in their mouth is disgusting.

When I was younger and my mother bought me an ice cream cone; she licked some off, and gave it back to me. I then proceeded to take a napkin and wipe the the ice cream off. I believe I was 3 or 4 at the time.

Ok I got to admit that product bites and the reasoning behind it is nonsense. I’m a pencil biter myself. Always have been since I was in grade school and I found that I did it only when I was deep in concentration not because I was distracted.

Also they would be a fool to believe that just because those pencils are pre-bitten that children will stop biting and chewing up their pencils and improve concentration.

If these children were anything like I was, they would just forget it was chewed from the start and chew it up some more then become distracted when they remember it was chewed by someone else, say their ewwws, then forget again that it was pre-bitten and finish chewing the darn thing up. (I’m guessing that is why most of my friends hated to lend me their pencils.)

But it’s the truth. If anything it would causes distractions not discipline them.

hmmm, I was a pencil chewer as a young one (I even used to eat the lead - eek, thank god it wasn’t really made from lead).
I didn’t even know I was doing it, if other kids are the same these pencils will not make the slightest amount of difference.

(Talia, I thought I was seeing myself double *grin* we have the same name)

Speaking of hygiene, I forgot to mention that my classmate who did that was when I was in CULINARY school. Seriously off-putting!

Hm…
I’m studying in Liverpool at the moment and well haven’t heard about this “product” yet. But if I see this one on the market, maybe I’ll get it for my friend who sucks her thumb every day. I mean seriously!! She’s 25 years old for God’s sake!!! She just needs something to chew on I guess… lol

The concern I can see with chewing pencils is lead poisoning. Been a chilli person I’d suggest one could always rub a cut birdseye chilli over the end of them that would fix the kid real quick.

My son would not even touch one of those pencils. He would be worried about who’s mouth it was in but he don’t chew on his pencils. I didn’t chew on mine.

My son won’t even eat off someone else. I won’t eat off someone else. My boyfriend, I won’t let him touch my plate if I am still eating it. He was no promblem taking or eating after me but I can’t eat after him.

Innovation?

Why should someone buy their children something like that? Doesn’t the industry have any idea for something more useful? Then, I don’t know why chewing on pencils is so magical for children. And that’s why this invention is such a waste.

LOL! I thought this was hilarious! Is this the only thing the company puts out? Do people really bites these? Or do they have a steel jaw that mechanically puts these faux teeth marks in? Seems really strange altogether! Aren’t there more important issues to address regarding children? Like gun control? Pencil chewing? Really! Anyway, thanks Sung. You gave me a good chuckle.
