I’m sure all of you techies know all about these new netbooks, but probably not all of you. I just saw this Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Netbook, and it’s pretty enticing. Personally, I think these netbooks are in genius. They should have invented these when I was a kid. They’re perfect for college students. Small, light, and CHEAP (anywhere from $300-500 which is pretty good for a laptop) laptops that do everything that most people do on their computers. And they’re the perfect size to carry in your backpack. I’d probably go for either the Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Netbook
or the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-1208U Netbook
. They feel like they’re more solid and durably built than the others. Although you could probably get the best bang for your buck going with some of the cheaper models like the Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook
or the ASUS Eee PC 900HA 8.9-Inch Netbook
.

Saving Some Cash
December 15th, 2008 — Technology
Heres a good article on the 5 most popular internet deal sites. I know its pretty last minute….but as long as you order it by sometime this week, you can probably get those gifts before Christmas. I’ve used 2 out of the 5, Slickdeals and Fatwallet. Slickdeals is one of the easier ones by just scanning the front page. Fatwallet is good as well, but it can take a bit more digging around to find deals that you’re looking for. One of the keys to using these sites is reading all the feedback that comments give you. It’s an easy way to do some online research with a bargain hunters mindset.

The LA Auto Show starts tomorrow through Thanksgiving weekend. From looking at the previews, there’s nothing jaw-dropping that makes me want to stop everything and go see the show. I guess it goes with the harsh economy, and the struggle the automakers are going through at the moment. Despite all this, here’s the most interesting/cool cars that I could find searching through all the previews.
The first one is actually the Honda Insight. Looks to me like Honda is jumping on the Prius bandwagon as well. The second one is actually a Natural Gas - Hybrid Camry. Natural gas vehicles have been around for so long, yet they’ve always been geared more towards government fleets and such. It’ll be interesting to see if Toyota actually makes these vehicles more available to people like Joe the Plumber. Then we might even see some natural gas kits to install in our houses. I could definitely go without the 4$ a gallon trips to Chevron.
Then there’s the Z and the Cayman. They’re still cool cars, but they just look a bit too similar to the old models. The rest of them are various sports cars which are either making their day-view, or still in the concept phase. Of course I’d still drive all of them, but they just don’t have that “it-factor” that makes me want to buy them.
Space Elevator
November 18th, 2008 — Technology
Heres a crazy article I read about the new race to make a space elevator. I guess the technology isn’t there yet, but scientists are predicting it to be available in the near future. The idea revolves around deploying a satellite in space, which will be anchored to the earth by some sort of super cables. Once that is in place, the elevator portion of it will travel up and down along that cable. It would be pretty crazy if they can actually pull this one off. It reminds me of the what the aliens had when they invaded us in Independence Day.

Exoskeleton Suits
August 26th, 2008 — Technology
Here’s some cool technology. They’re making some human exoskeleton suits that will allow paralyzed people to walk again. It’s almost like a real life Iron Man suit (without the jetpack for to let them fly). It does still require the use of crutches for the added balance, so it will only work for the people that still have the ability to use their arms. Regardless, it’s still another step in technology that’ll be very useful to some.
Cold Fusion!!!

I don’t know if you guys remember that video about the Japanese car that runs on water, but here’s an American company - Blacklight Power - working on the same sort of technology. They claim to have a working fuel cell that can extract energy out of water. Many people people are skeptical about their claims, which seem to break some basic laws of physics. Hopefully we’ll find out soon if they really can do what they claim, and maybe if we’re lucky, the majority of doubters will be wrong in this situation.

Bigger’s always better!!!

It looks like Sharp is gonna take the top spot from Panasonic for the biggest LCD. These 108 inch monsters are supposed to go on sale for only……150k here in the states. Wow…..and the crazier thing is this will probably cost 10k in 5 years. Isn’t technology great. I may have to replace one of my walls with one of these things in the future.

Water Powered Car!!!!
June 14th, 2008 — Technology
Now heres a car that could save everyone a whole lot of money, and perhaps solve our world’s energy crisis. They’ve created a car that runs purely on water, without the need for external power sources added to it. This is some crazy technology. It almost sounds too good to be true. But, if they really can do what they claim, we could see water being used as a replacement for oil. I think I can speak for everyone when I say I’d like to see them bring this technology to the consumers as soon as possible.
3G Iphone!!
June 9th, 2008 — Technology
It looks like Apple has set some high standards once again. They just announced the details on their new Iphone today. Theres a couple new features that are really cool. First of all, its 3G, although that feature was pretty much a given. The second feature I like is the integrated GPS. That is gonna make driving around LA that much easier when you have to take all the little shortcuts to get around the traffic. And the last, and probably best feature about it is their price point. The 8Gb version is gonna cost $199 and the 16Gb version is gonna cost $299. Now thats still a lot of money, but its a lot better than their initial pricing of $499 and $599 of the original Iphones.
Tesla!!!!!
May 30th, 2008 — Technology
Tesla Motors has created a cool little car. Its not the fastest car on the road, nor is it the best looking car on the road, but it pretty much does everything a sports car needs to do while being green at the same time. Your not gonna go 200+ mph in this car, but you can pretty much accelerate up to 120 mph with the best of them. When you think about it, thats all you really need on the street. It is a plug-in electrical vehicle, so there are some excess battery and power costs, but on the plus side, you don’t have to buy any gas for it.
