I’m speechless.

Speechless, huh? Sometimes I wish I had that predicament.

1) It’s hard to imagine anyone that attaches to individual dogs closer than I do. But there are so many dogs out there that need good people and homes that it seems frivolous in the extreme to do this. AND it isn’t “moving on” or “getting over” a pet’s death if you replace it with a clone… wouldn’t you just be putting off the inevitable?

2) Human cloning… NO NO NO… my mind rebels on this issue absolutely… talk about trying to be God. I hope it never succeeds. For myself, I’ve had enough problems finding peace with my identity and being me… a clone of me? That’s just a nightmare I don’t need. And it begs a whole new question of… would it have a soul?

Happy 4th of July, Sung. Be safe.

These are just pre-phases to actual human cloning. I actually believe they already tried and are probably now going back to the drawing board because something went wrong. So… I know, let’s clone dogs!

I don’t know about the whole “if it would have a soul” thing. It wouldn’t be God made. I think they are going to far. This can only have bad results in the end.

And they wonder why there is so many phenomenal things happening in the world? Something or somebody is pissed!

well… let’s be the devil’s advocate… only in arguing the other side of that question (which I’m skilled at doing on my own - ha, yes I’m troubled)… we could say that if everything is in God’s hands and everything is in his plans, that “it” would indeed have a soul because it wouldn’t succeed otherwise. Kind of a moot point as no one will really know, absolutely, until they meet Him face to face and ask. I have a list of such questions for just that occasion… it’s a really long list.

But, why? Is this a case of growing another body for spare parts? That is whack and very like that movie “The Island”. As another being, it would be its own being and not subject to our whims… how could it be otherwise when slavery is against the law and this is way beyond that? And if you are growing a clone because you can’t bear to be without a departed loved one… I understand but that’s a whole ‘nother issue of whackness.

Does anyone really know why they are doing this at all? Is it all a big question of… “let’s see if we can do this? how far can we push this particular envelope?”

As for ‘Someone’ being pissed… no question… I’m sure if He hadn’t promised not to destroy the world by flood again… we probably would have been submerged about a dozen times since that first one. My pardon to any non-believers.

My belief is that we are screwing around with our world enough that we are causing it all ourselves. We are now advanced enough to engineer our own demise… comforting.

Cool subject to chew on… thanks, Sung. =)

If we are meant to grow and evolve as humans by dealing with the difficulties in our lives, are we not setting ourselves back when we take comfort in someone that should be gone?

ES UN TEMA DIFICIL, JUGAR A SER DIOS, REMPLAZAR A SERES QUERIDOS POR COPIAS, GENETICAMENTE IGUALES, PERO IMPOSIBLE IGUALAR LA ESENCIA DE CADA UNO,LO QUE NOS HACE UNICOS.
PERO TAMBIEN ESTA EL TEMA DE LAS ENFERMEDADES, QUIZAS CON LA CLONACION ELIMINEMOS LAS LARGAS ESPERAS PARA UN TRANSPLANTE DE ORGANOS, ESAS AGONIAS CUANDO EL RELOJ ESTA EN CONTRA DE NUESTRA VIDA.

How terribly morbid. Do they have no respect for mother nature? Do we call it mother for no reason? Because she is how we were all brought here from day one. Seeking to control her creation should likely
lead to ruin. We are all independent from soul to body, one and oneself alone. Yet we all depend on one another. The animals depend on us to watch out for them. Not to mock everything that was given to them, from the beginning. I see this cloning as a deep disrespect to the living. But this is purely my view.

I think that when God promised He wouldn’t destroy the earth by flood again He knew it wouldn’t be necessary, mankind is doing a fine job destroying it without any helpfrom Him. I also agree that there are plenty of sweet dogs and cats that need good homes, I myself have rescued several Saint Bernards and they’ve turned out to be wonderful pets that we love dearly Good post Theresa.

#10 Teresa Ellis on 07.04.08 at 7:40 pm

Hey Michele! Thank you.

I’ve picked up quite a few animals off the street and found new homes for them… very few had any character problems and were very sweet and personable… I regret that I can’t keep them all myself. As it is, I have been adopted by 2 feral cats that have decided they are happy indoors (with their own furnished room) and I found I couldn’t part with one very large and furry black mutt that my german shepherd has adopted as her charge. My cup (and my apt) runneth over.

I am speechless too …….what to write about it?

#12 Tapai on 07.05.08 at 4:43 am

I certainly do not know what to say about this except to ask WHY?!

#13 Elena Stevenson on 07.05.08 at 7:11 am

As usual, I’m a day late :) So many great thoughts! Another good pick for great discussion, Sung : )

The natural cycle of birth and life is an integral part of our existence. OK, so a cat that looks like your old cat helps you with your grief. But so would a similar cat fom the pound that needs a good home! This is dangerous, another step toward human cloning, not to mention incredibly narcicistic. If your pet dies, find a human or animal that needs your love instead of spending all this money on a genetic copy. God knows there are lots of God’s creatures that need it…

Someone mentioned a movie…funny, the futuristic films are the most engrossing–and the most scary–for me.

#14 Jaine on 07.05.08 at 2:14 pm

oh god, I”m speechless and horrified. Good words from Elena

#15 Ku on 07.05.08 at 3:43 pm

Yay, just what we needed more homeless animals! Oh no, nevermind these won’t be homeless they will be adopted by some attention loving family, right?

I’m not entirely against cloning but I am entirely against frivolity and potential harm it will do in the future.

I guess I’m an oxymoron.

there are so many things one can talk about, child welfare, child neglect, and abuse, teen drug abuse, teen sucide rates .the fact all you hear now is my child is a.d.h.d so let medicate them. or we can talk about the nummber of grandparents raising grand children.we can talk about animal rights, yes they have rights. and speaking of animal rights lert ban fur farming, this i am working on in my area say no to fur , no fur. we can talk about how gas keeps going up and up and we have to pay.we can talk about this election, as i said so much we can talk about

#17 Teresa Ellis on 07.07.08 at 1:13 am

You are so right, M.M. That’s definitely one thing true today, isn’t it? There are so many issues that one can lend a hand with… and all of us have issues that speak to each one of us, that are more personal to each of us. Thankfully, there are so many of us that if we all were to tackle an issue or two, we might make a difference. That would be interesting to see.

As an individual made different by A.D.H.D.(for starters), I can only regret that not enough was known about it when I went to school to do anything to help me. I was judged a bright but lazy and stubborn kid in the eyes of each of my teachers in every single grade… thank God that part of my life is past… it was a type of Hell. But I digress… as usual…

Animal rights is something that tears me apart… I don’t talk about it often because people don’t understand how affected I am by it and they think I’m silly for caring so much. However, I don’t think anyone is wrong for wearing fur or eating meat or breeding purebred animals… and I believe that any attempt to curtail anyone else’s right to those things is only destined to fail… and therefore, worthy efforts in a worthwhile cause are wasted. What I would be concerned about is the way the industries go about providing these things. I think everything should be done to minimize and/or eliminate the distress, fear and pain any of these animals go through. The Lord gave us the animals to provide for whatever need we think we have… but He also gave us the responsibility for their care… and there is no doubt whatsoever that these industries do horrible things to those creatures.

The gas situation has loomed for decades… come on… we ALL knew it was just a matter of time. Circumstances being what they are… the steep incline of the price… the availability of the product… the pervasiveness of how it affects every other market… it will be resolved… and shortly… one way or the other… and I’m not quite sure I want to watch.

#18 Lenora on 07.07.08 at 8:40 am

I remember watching that in disgust.

#19 joy on 07.07.08 at 10:30 am

shocking and disgusting are the two words that come to mind. ethically it is unabashedly wrong and not just because it’s only a small leap to human cloning.

only a warped person would want a clone of someone or something they loved. is not the world full enough already of wonderful people and things, each uniquely beautiful and interesting? why must we meddle with the natural order of things.

when the time comes for members of my family and friends to die, there is no replacement for them. a genetic clone could never replace the person that is loved and lost. we are too much the sum of our life’s experiences to attempt to replicate.

Esta en cada uno de nostros el usar todo lo disponible creado por el hombre para hacer el bien.

Why?? I just spent the last few days trying to pick my friends up off the floor after losing their pet. Having had my heart broken into a thousand pieces the day that I had to put my Staffy to sleep I can understand their emotional pain. Even while reliving one of the lowest days of my life I cannot see the direction of genetics and cloning being positive.

#22 marilyn michelle on 07.11.08 at 7:21 pm

yes these are some nice homes i like house 4,5, and 12, with first pick being 12, 5, 4, these are some nice looking homes

#23 Kelly on 07.28.08 at 5:26 pm

Hey Sung, Awesome topic.

They cloned in Jurassic Park “Dyno DNA” and look what happened….. they started eating humans…. lol
Seriously, this cloning should be left to our Almighty Lord, He knows what He is doing, does man? No slam on chemists, doctors, etc., but cloning is just one step to us losing control. Sounds like some mad movie.

#24 Ms. Anannsul on 07.29.08 at 4:31 pm

Wow, i would LOVE to clone my dog! =D

NOT!

This kind of thing just shows that people really do judge on looks. Even if your new dog ACTS like the old one, personality wise.. they just couldn’t be the same.

The guy who said “I know we just met, but it’s so nice to see you again.”

I’m a spiritual person, I would be able to tell that it isn’t my dog that I really loved and cherished. It would be just a clone… that to be honest would only depress me more. ._.

So, even if I could clone my dog… or maybe in the future my dead husband… I wouldn’t.
