It looks like Apple has set some high standards once again. They just announced the details on their new Iphone today. Theres a couple new features that are really cool. First of all, its 3G, although that feature was pretty much a given. The second feature I like is the integrated GPS. That is gonna make driving around LA that much easier when you have to take all the little shortcuts to get around the traffic. And the last, and probably best feature about it is their price point. The 8Gb version is gonna cost $199 and the 16Gb version is gonna cost $299. Now thats still a lot of money, but its a lot better than their initial pricing of $499 and $599 of the original Iphones.

yeah. i heard this news from the radio this afternoon. 3G support may also mean compatibility in Japan and Korea markets? GPS is another added value, too, while it has been a standard feature in many cell phones in Korea and Japan already. The cell phones in Asia are still a few generations ahead of the latest model you can find in US. I will wait until I see Skype ready version. That defeats the purpose of the wireless providers’, though.
this phone here in Brazil is almost R$1,000.. a looot of money. I don’t understand how a phone can cost that much..
but it sure looks nice.
I guess I lucked out. My boss gave me a free at & t phone. It is a prepaid, but it’s not too bad.
I’m so excited, because I held out long enough to get this one. My friend Joe picked up the iphone when it first came out, way before he was eligible to get the rebate. He loves his phone, and I love it too, everytime I see him he lets me have it. Steve Jobs rules!
(sorry, is R$1,550.00/R$2,199.00, depends on the
store.. but it is not the sale here still.)
.. I confused with another one.
wow, generous boss huh?..
I just bought a prepaid tracfone to carry around. It is only for emergency purposes such as beater breakdowns… and so people can call me for an ETA because I can’t be anywhere on time.
It makes me extremely anxious to see that almost every driver on the road with me is only driving with one hand and only about 15% of their brain or attention on the road because they are also on the phone… especially since random vehicles seem to gravitate INTO mine with disturbing regularity.
I also have a theory that the amount of stress we have on a daily basis is directly linked to our accessibility… we need downtime to regroup or recuperate… time when we aren’t accessible. Everything in this world is now now now…. instantaneous interaction and demand. I’m pro-progress but not at the expense of our peace of mind.
But I suppose if you have to walk around with a phone, your email, the internet, a clock, a GPS, the phonebook, an MP3 player, and multiple games on your person then the iphone is the way to go… it beats having a Batman-like utility belt strapped on with all of these things swinging from your behind. Personally I think my walk would be somewhat hampered if the phone book was banging against my hip.
=)
Remember the outdated cell phone from Hitler’s Pager? Mine is only a few rungs above that one. When my budget can support it, the 8gb iPhone looks like a great option for me. It would be good for business travel….
My phone is an LG. I still don’t know how to use it. I just make emergency calls. But again, I can’t complain, the boss just gave it to me. When it runs out I go to an AT & T store and get more tim. It’s pretty easy.
ach, technology is moving too fast for this hick. Beware of GPS, some folk got lost and ended up in pretty rough 4WD country following their GPS in NZ.
I have a LG phone that does not work here in Korea, go figure.
Jaine, some people aren’t turned on by technology… and you generally have to have some interest in something in order to learn about it. My mom’s first VCR just bit the dust… it was 20 years old and she had never turned it on herself… she hadn’t even set the clock on it… ever. She would get me to program it when it needed it. Different strokes, I suppose.
=)
All hail the Jesus phone!
i don’t really remember what life was like before my iphone, its probably the best invention since the Hot Diggity Dogger (i mean, how ingenius to think it possible to cook the hot dog and toast the bun with one machine).
my only thought of how apple could have improved the iphone was to add rubber grippy strips to the sides of the phone since that sucker is pretty slippery and i have dropped mine more times than i care to think about.
Jaine. GPS has different zones just like DVD’s if your friends in NZ were using a GPS set for another part the earth for eg. the northern hemisphere and didn’t reset it to the zone they had gone into I’m not surprised they got lost. If all else fails… Plan Plan Plan aheard, get a current map of the area and learn use a compass. Also with GPS programs they are only as good as the software behind them.
Oh, sweet! I’ve been on the fence about buying an iphone because well $500 is way more then I willing to spend on a telephone with fancy gadgets. I can live with 200 or 300 dollars. >.>
Too bad I don’t need half of the services it provides. Oh I’d like to mention, I too have gotten lost WITH a gps.
I’m so sad. :/ Lol.
It just came out here in OZ. The latest rumour I’ve heard is that it has been made to break down in about 4 months and the company will refuse to replace it.
I went from the Spring Treo to the LG Rumor. The Treo was so large, like the sleek thin look of the IPhone. My LG is pretty good and it was free, no complaints here. What did we all do before cell phones? Help, i’ve slept since then……
